Access control devices come in many different types, styles, security levels and costs. Some of the most common systems for pedestrian access control currently are:

  • MIFARE – Cards and Fobs
  • 125Mhtz Proximity Devices – Card and Fobs
  • iClass Credentialed Access Devices – Cards and Fobs
  • Near Field Communications via Smart Phones

  • The above credentialed access devices all must communicate with a reader that is appropriate to the device and communications protocol, which can be standards based or proprietary depending on the customer's needs and desires:

  • Wiegand – 26bit being original and most popular (125MHz)
  • iCLASS – Differing manufacturer protocols (13.56MHz)
  • MIFARE – Many different protocols (13.56MHz)
  • Near Field Communication – NFC (13.56MHz)

  • Access control devices for vehicles also come in many different types, styles, security levels and costs. Some of the more common systems for vehicle access control currently are:

  • Transponders – windshield, headlamp, license plate and loose
  • • Destroyed upon removal for extra security
    • Passive, Active and Semi-Active

  • Transmitters – voidable or standard
  • • Voidable Transmitters are programmed into access control system
    • Standard Transmitters are programmed to receiver only
